Trim Diet

What is the most proficient diet fro a man in his early thirties, in fair shape, with a few pounds to trim?
I tend to eat healthy, but as far as good meal choices, paired with exercise, what options do I have without starving, or otherwise eating like a bird? I’d rather not lose muscle, just a few pounds and increase my energy.
I think the best thing you can do for yourself is just eat a moderate, balanced diet… may not sound sexy, but it works…
1. Eat plenty of vegetables, fruits, nuts, lots of nutrient-rich foods. Giving your body the nutrients it needs (supplements alone don’t cut it) will help you avoid cravings. When your body needs nutrient X, it will keep hounding you to eat until it gets enough nutrient X… If you’re eating empty calories, you’re going to stay hungry.
2. PORTION CONTROL. If you’re not paying attention, you will always take more food than you need. And you always think you need more food than you do. If possible, use a smaller plate. As silly as it sounds, it really works. Studies show that the bigger the plate, the more food people serve themselves without realizing. If there’s more food on your plate than you need, get it off there – throw out half your french fries before you start eating, or put some of your dinner away for leftovers. It doesn’t feel like much of a sacrifice, but it cuts a lot of calories out of your day.
3. Avoid foods made from chemicals – even “diet” foods. Processed foods contain lots of substances that try to make crappy food taste good. A lot of these chemicals increase your cravings – some are addictive, some stimulate insulin production, lowering your blood sugar and causing you to crave carbs. Buy foods with as few ingredients as possible, avoid chain restaurants, cook your own if at all possible.
If you make these things a habit, you won’t even feel like you’re on a diet – after a while you won’t even realize you’re doing it. But you’ll cut out unnecessary calories, the balanced nutrients will help with your energy, and your exercise can do its job.
